CRAIG HOUGH RA, AIA

After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1971 with a bachelor of architecture degree Craig Hough and working for several architectural firms in the Pittsburgh area, Hough formed a partnership and created Hough / Loew Associates one of the first commercial design / build concerns in the Chester County area. From its simple inception it has had a profound impact on the commercial architecture of the tri-county area.

Hough's responsibilities included architectural design and documentation and the subsequent construction supervision. As the company grew and its geographic area expanded superintendents were hired to report directly to him. This expansion permitted Hough to concentrate more of his talents of client contact and his architectural design responsibilities.

By the mid- 1980's Craig Hough's architectural staff had grown to two project architects and five draftsmen. Construction activity exceeded $30 million yearly, and Hough's architecture department was recognized as expert in the design of warehouse and industrial facilities, office buildings and tenant retrofit work. By 1988, Hough/Loew had developed five major Delaware Valley Industrial and Corporate Parks for their own account and enjoyed an increasing number of design and construction commissions for other area developers who recognized their skills in this specialized field.

When office and industrial activity diminished in the late eighties, Hough / Loew success fully made the conversion to the design and construction of retail and strip shopping centers for area retailers and eventually for regional and national retailers desiring to locate in the Philadelphia markets.

In the 19 years with Hough / Loew Associates, Craig Hough was responsible for over 150 projects with a total construction cost of over $225 million.

Craig Hough has recently separated from his partnership at Hough / Loew to pursue his goal of establishing the professional design firm, C. E. Hough Associates. With a foundation of 25 years of construction and architectural design knowledge, C. E. Hough Associates stands committed to a strong design orientation offering architectural and land planning, construction management, consultation, and owner representation.
